Week 9 - March 3, 2013
Week 9 already and March too? I wondered when I started this how long it might be before I had a "slow" week photographically and didn't shoot much. Actually, I'm always photographing something. This week went with a couple of guys from the Boise Camera Club to photograph the snow geese which we heard were passing through in the thousands, visiting the ponds in the Parma / Roswell area. Others had shown photos they'd taken over there and the shots were impressive. For us however, it truly did turn into a "wild goose chase," as the birds weren't moving around much and were in areas out of the range of our cameras when we went on Wednesday. Good try, but none of my shots were worth much.
I also did some corporate "headshots" for my part-time employer, Kendall Ford of Meridian and though the off-camera flash / portable
studio techniques require some know-how and typically turn out well, this kind of photography isn't very artistic or something I'd post here.
Of course the other component of the job is to photograph the cars, both new and used, for the dealership for posting on their website. Though it's pretty much "production photography," I try to make the shots as artistic as I can. Occasionally, I also see something that transcends the simple car photography... a glint off the chrome, the curve of the lines on a car, reflections and the play of light. I think a good photographer and artist can see opportunities in any subject.
So that's what we have this week - images that started out as creatively seeing the art in the cars. Then I took some of the images a bit
further in an editing program on my Nexus 7 tablet - PicsArt. I never thought the modern "abstract art" look of these shots would be something that appealed to me, but I'm finding the beauty in the lines, light, color and textures of these shots. Besides... I've seen this kind of art sell for millions of dollars and hang in museums in famous places around the world. So I'll post these and wait for the phone to ring from the curator at the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art.. :-)
