A Very Purple Christmas -
Elvis might have sung of a Blue Christmas, but here in Meridian, Idaho where the scented wax company Scentsy has it's world headquarters, the color of Christmas is purple. Well, with accents of green and white too, but purple is the color that jumps out at you when you drive by and see the dozens, maybe hundreds of illuminated trees on their huge campus. Who would've thought Orville Thompson's idea of a wickless "candle" would have "caught fire", (ok, bad pun, the whole idea of these is there is no fire) and grown into a multi-million dollar company with over 1,000 employees and sales not only in the U.S. but across North American, Europe, and Australia.
I have to wonder whether this will be a fad and over time the smell of money will fade and this incredible facility they've built will go on the auction block. Hopefully, not for a while as it's been a boon for the local economy. For now, I thought I'd take the camera though and capture some of the light display. Have a look at the slideshow below.
Then further down is a shot of what has become one of my favorite Christmas decorations, a ceramic Santa with a real knit sweater. I love his expression and he just makes me smile.
Ten days 'til Christmas, two more "Project 52" posts for 2013, and then it'll be time to come up with a new idea for a New Year. Until then, enjoy the holidays!
