WEEK 4 - JANUARY 26, 2013
The story (and photos) of the week can be summed up in one three-letter word - ICE!
We came out of what had been about 2 weeks in the deep-freeze (with highs in the teens and lows sometimes below zero), to a storm which brought a morning of freezing rain. The National Weather Service called it a "Historic Freezing Rain Event." Perhaps a little dramatic, but then I've lived in Boise for 37-years now and cannot remember a morning where absolutely everything was coated in a 1/4" of ice. I was glad I didn't have to drive much in it.
But I did have to work in it and when your job is taking photos of cars and trucks, you have to be outside, (trying hard not to fall on your butt!). Were it not for my "cat-like reflexes and ninja stealth moves" (grin), I might have had to file a workers comp claim.
Gladly that did not happen, but I decided to use some of the snaps I made on the car lot, closeups of ice detail on the vehicles. I like to think there are always photo opportunities anywhere if you know how to look for them. I hope you will agree my montage shows both a bit of the environment I was working in this week, as well as the artistic side of a "Historic Freezing Rain Event."
I call it - "Ice Ain't Nice."
Technical specs:
Camera - Nikon D3000 (this is my work camera used to shoot the car photos I do at Kendall Ford of Meridian)
Lens - Kit lens - 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX VR Nikkor
Exposure - various
Matrix metering - No flash

Iced Clematis
I wanted to add this shot too... a quick snap with my cellphone camera (a Pantech Crossover). This is ice on the Clematis in my backyard. I often shoot the huge purple flowers when they populate the vine in season, but didn't think that encased in ice in January, the dormant vines would have their own unique color.
